“Bedazzled” Mystery
A Mystery Block of the Month

3rd Border

This month you'll be making a Jewel Block border with 4-Patch corners.  The Jewel blocks measure 4 1/2" unfinished.  Your completed center will measure 32 1/2" (32" finished)

Cutting Instructions:

RED

 Cut 4 - 2 1/2" Squares
Cut 24 - 3" Squares for HST's

YELLOW

Cut 4 - 2 1/2" Squares
Cut 12 - 3" Squares for HST's

GREEN

Cut 12 - 3" Squares for HST's

MEDIUM BLUE

Cut 8 - 2 1/2" Squares
Cut 48 - 3" Squares for HST's--
Mark on the Diagonal (wrong side)

Assembly:

First, make 4 corner units (2 of each color arrangement) as you did before as shown:

Next, make half-square triangle units by placing one of your 48 Medium Blue 3" Squares (RST) on top of one of your 24 Red, 12 Yellow, or 12 Green 3" squares, and stitching 1/4" on both sides of the diagonal line that you marked.  Cut apart on that line.  Press seam allowances on the Red/Blue HST units toward the Red.  On all other HST units, press seam allowances toward the Medium Blue.  This produces 2 HST units from 2 squares.  Repeat for a total of 96 units, as shown below.  Trim each unit to measure 2 1/2".

Next, form your Jewel blocks with your HST units as shown.  Your blocks should measure 4 1/2" unfinished.

Next, form the border units from the Jewel blocks, joining corner blocks on the top and bottom border as shown, making sure they are in the right positions.  Then join to your quilt center as shown:
