Seventh Block

The 7th block in this series is the Shoo Fly block. You will need to make five 12” blocks. Mix your HST’s in a random fashion.

Cutting Instructions for 1 Block:

Light Scraps: Cut 4 – 4 ½” Squares
Cut 2 – 5” Squares for HST’s, Mark on the Diagonal (wrong side)

Dark Scraps: Cut 1 – 4 ½” Square
Cut 2 – 5” Squares for HST’s

Assembly:

Half-Square Triangle Units (HST’s):

Place a light square and a dark square right side together on top of each other. Stitch 1/4” on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Open and press seam allowance toward the dark fabric. Yields 2 units. Trim your units to measure 4 1/2” unfinished.

Following diagrams, sew block together as shown. Your blocks should measure 12 1/2” unfinished.
