I mentioned I was working on this one last month for a client.  It was thoroughly enjoyable doing something that I didn't have to write the instructions for as I was doing it.  :-)  The pattern is from a Patchwork Place book called "Classic Quilts" from a while back.  But don't expect to follow the pattern in the book, 'cause the instructions were totally different from the actual quilt.  Sometimes that happens.  There was one block in the actual quilt in the book that had the color placement totally different that the rest, and (wouldn't you know it) that was the block that the editors used to base the whole pattern upon.  But simply observing the picture tells you that you alternate lights and darks.  It's a great way to use up your scraps.  

Another top I mentioned I was working on last month is the antique basket top for a client, utilizing fabric from Glenna Hailey's "Fun with Feedsacks" line with P & B Textiles.  It began with some very old (and very dingy and stained) hand-pieced basket blocks.  Here's a photo of how it turned out:

The key ingredient was to "build" my own fabric from squares of Glenna's fabric line.  I built large squares of patchwork squares and then cut on the diagonal to fit the setting.  Worked like a charm and I'll probably use that technique again someday.

I probably won't be getting as much done each month for a while.  As some of you know, I've taken a part-time job at the local public library.  Now I'm away from home 6 days a week, so this definitely cuts into my quilting time.  So don't despair if you are trying to contact me and we have to play phone tag.  I'll eventually return your calls and emails.  Just might be after midnight.  :-)

What Am I Working On?

I have two more projects for a client.  And I'm still working on Bob's mourning quilt and also one now for my mother-in-law for her late husband's mourning quilt too.  In another project drawer is an appliqued star cluster quilt for myself.  In another is a butterfly block collection to assemble for a client.  And the peacock quilt is still in the hand quilting frame now for 2 years, at least.  (But I did move the frame the other day from being propped against one wall to another wall.)

The Quilt Shoppe Forum News:

The 39 blue/yellow/white star block scramble was won by Debbie (Craftstar).  Our current block scramble drawing is for heart blocks, all sizes and techniques.  Deadline is May 1.  Irish Karen has a Kitty Block swap going strong.  And Lynn has begun a very unusual mystery swap that I can wait to participate in.
