New Girls on the Block!
It's a family affair! Three sisters with a love of sewing (led by an inspirational mother) have opened a quilt shop in downtown Pryor.
Kathy Blackwell, Sandi Piatek, & Shelley Meeker have established SISTERS In STITCHES quilt shop at 13 S. Adair. The sisters expanded to the current store from a smaller location near Locust Grove, Oklahoma, after seeing the need for a larger retail area. Their mom, Jewell Blackwell, is well known in the area for her machine quilting and quilt restorations. So the girls have quilting in their blood. Kathy's daughter, Jewell-Leigh Nicholas, helps out a lot at the store teaching classes, helping customers, learning new techniques also. Between the four of them, they get a lot done! They offer a variety of classes (for kids, too!), and fabrics, and notions, as well as a machine quilting service in the store. (And they carry a lot of Claudia's Quilt Shoppe.com patterns!) Here are some pictures taken while I was there this week.
The store is well-lit, spacious, and clean. And the girls make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
They carry several lines of fabric, a good selection of books/patterns, and notions, as well as thread.
They also have several sample quilts on display, as well as a few of mine. The Lone Star quilt in the background was made by Jewell-Leigh, her first lone star, after watching Kay Woods do it on television. Amazing work for a beginning quilter. Actually I should say she is no longer a beginner!
Here's Kathy at the cutting table, busy cutting my fat quarters. :-) Each of the girls has her own style. Where one likes traditional, another likes modern. Where one likes conventional techniques, another likes to "wing it". A perfect arrangement for sharing creative ideas amongst themselves and with customers. Here's a picture of the group.

Be sure to drop in to see them when you're in the area of NE Oklahoma, and tell them I sent you. They are delightful people and you are sure to be inspired!
What's New?:
Don't forget to attend the
Jenks, America, Great American Quilt Show. Coming up July 21-23.
Tell all your friends and neighbors!
A new lone star pattern on the pattern page called "Lone"ly Hearts! I'll have more news on that in next month's newsletter.
Forum News:
We have the Birthday Swap, the Spring Fling Forum Quilt Thing, an Outhouse Block Swap, and Karen has an ongoing poll on what movie theme for a new swap. So far the front runners are "Oklahoma!" and "Little House on the Prairie". The drawing of the lucky winner of the Spring Fling blocks will be held June 15. Leona (Macmonday) won the drawing for the Twinklers Scramble last month and the Nickel Nines drawing will take place Tuesday night. We'll be posting the Mystery Member winner for June next week. Last month's Mystery Member winner was Char. She received a nickel squares collection tin (with nickel squares in it, of course!) Plus, "Irish Karen" posts her favorite links every month to all those quilting freebie sites on the net. She'll be a little late this month though, due to her being on vacation this week. Go here to join in on the fun:

http://photo.stamps.com/PhotoStamps/ Photo stamps are back!!! After a brief appearance last summer, and quick demise, photo stamps are making another try at it. You upload your favorite photo and they (the US Post Office) will customize any size stamp in a sheet of 20 to your photo. Costs a little extra for the "luxury", but you can imagine all kinds of ways to use them--i.e. wedding invitations, birth announcements, birthday party invitations, QUILT PHOTOS, etc. Let's hope they last a little longer this time before someone abuses the privilege again.
