GREETINGS! -----

Work, Work, Work.....
Thought this one would never end. Do I sound grouchy? Well, it IS a gorgeous quilt, though. If a person enjoys tedious torment, it's very enjoyable.
I shouldn't be so cranky. When I first committed to doing this, I knew I was in for a job and a half. First, there are hundreds of little 4-patch yellow and pink diamond units. Once you get beyond that point, it becomes worse. (Just kidding, Judy!) There are 48 eight-pointed stars in this thing. That's a LOT of point-matching, and a pressing nightmare. You finally have to just press the seam allowances to the direction with the least resistance! If eight-pointed stars are your forte, then you'll LOVE this one.
Actually the best thing about this design is there are NO Y SEAMS! Nothing to set in. Everything is pieced in block units that all stitch together quite nicely--providing you have perfect 1/4" seam allowances, and you're good at handling a lot of bias edges.
This is the reason I have not accomplished hardly anything for the last 2 or 3 months. But I do have to add that there was an ice storm in there, my mom's illness, my mother-in-law's illness, and a lot of grandbaby sitting going on. But it is also responsible for this newsletter being late AGAIN, and I apologize for that.
I had to almost "lock myself in" this past weekend to git-r-done! Finished it yesterday and quickly tried to photograph it before daylight ended. Then I couldn't find my photography display stand since I moved. So I had to waste an hour locating the thing and finally finding it under the bed at my son's home. Then as I was going in and out the front door, one of the cats escaped, so that took another half hour of chasing her down and getting her back in the house. Then I couldn't locate my backdrop sheet (also since I moved). Called a neighbor with a king-size bed and borrowed one of her sheets, which took another half hour or so getting that. THEN I discovered there is no place in this house suitable for photography. Every wall is covered with mirrors, sconces, paintings, and there's furniture in the way everywhere. Had to settle for the living room where there's barely enough room without moving my mother-in-law out of her recliner. I had to climb on the back of the couch to get far enough away from it, and still couldn't get the top of it in. So be it.
I was so relieved it was all over as I took down the stand and folded up the quilt top and placed it in a tote bag. Later I plugged in the camera to post the picture in an email to the quilt owner. I had two good shots. Both had cats in them! I had no idea they were in there when I clicked the camera. But I decided I liked this one with Sissy the Cat in it. She looks like she posed. If you can't see her, she's in the lower left corner, with flashing eyes looking at you.

What Am I Working On?
First, I'm cleaning up my sewing room! The last project was scattered everywhere and occupying every inch of free space. I found a ruler I thought was missing! And I blamed the grandkids.
I guess it's safe to say now that LeAnn Weaver and I are working on a book to be published in 2008 by Martingale! I won't give any details yet, but this has top priority on the project list now. You can expect that I'll not get much of anything else done or have anything to show you for a while. But we are excited!!!
So I'm still repeating the old list: I still haven't started on the mourning quilt for my mother-in-law. I've not been working on the hand quilting on Bob's quilt in the floor hoop. Progressing none. Still have the appliquéd star cluster quilt for myself, and the butterfly block collection to assemble for a client, and a penguin block quilt to assemble. And the peacock quilt still remains in the hand quilting frame and now has been moved once again to another room for storage where it is gathering dust..
The Quilt Shoppe Forum News:
The Simple and Scrappy Squares Scramble was won by Megan Williams! She won 34 really lovely blocks. Perhaps we'll make this block into a swap soon.
Lynn's Twisted Mystery II is in it's final stages, with completed quilts gradually being sent to her. There have been a lot of photos of finished tops sent to "observers" (members not participating in the mystery swap getting a sneak peek of finished quilts, but are NOT allowed to share openly).
Char has started an umbrella/beachball swap. And another Scramble is underway involving rail fence blocks in jewel tones.

Added to the Guest Gallery:
Mary Riley, Massachusetts, sends in a photo of her Simple Scrappy Pleasures that she and two of her friends did as a "friendship" quilt. They swapped one of each block with each other.
Thanks, Mary! (& friends!)
