MORE FUN!!
I'm just "goin' to town" making these "Four-Patch Frenzies" for my grandkids this year for Christmas gifts. I try to make quilts for the 5 of them every 2 years. I figure that by the time 2 years has gone by, they have either grown out of or worn out their quilts by then and it's time to replace them.
As I mentioned last month, the general design was inspired by Maxine Rosenthal's book (CT Publishing) "One Block Wonders". I like the way you use only one fabric, cut it up, and sew it back together, and VOILA', there it is! And isn't that exactly what we always do? Except we usually cut up a whole bunch of different fabrics and sew them back together. This way, with only one fabric, there's less of a mess to clean up. :-)
Here's the fabric, the only fabric, used on Devon's quilt:
Cut it up, kaleidoscope style, and you get spinning blocks. (I use two sizes of blocks).
I added a couple of 2" inside borders between the big blocks and the little blocks. I figured that Devon and his older brother, Blake, might need a slightly larger quilt than the other 3 grandkids. So adding the black borders solves that problem. It turns out to be about 59" x 69".
My good friend, Regina, came over today and we worked on the next one (and final one, whew!). That way she helped me get it done, and she learned how to do it for herself. We worked at it for about 6 hours starting time to quitting time. And all the blocks are done, arranged, and ready to sew into rows. Of course, we had to take coffee breaks, lunch break, and spend time discussing and cussing the arrangement of the blocks too. :-)

What Am I Working On?
Obviously, I've been working on the grandkids' quilts again.
And I'm working on finalizing the complete pattern instructions for the new scrappy project on the free page--"Simple Scrappy Treasures". I am amazed at how many of you have emailed to let me know you are working on this project as groups, forums, etc. I even heard from a forum group of 30 quilters in Germany who are working together on this project. How fun is that? I'll try to get the complete instructions done and available for purchase very soon, for those of you who just can't wait month-to-month.
I still haven't started on the mourning quilt for my mother-in-law. I've not been working on the hand quilting on Bob's quilt in the floor hoop--I keep moving it around the sewing room, 'cause it keeps getting in my way all the time--but I refuse to give up yet. Progressing none. Still have the appliquéd star cluster quilt for myself and a penguin block quilt to assemble. And the peacock quilt still remains in the hand quilting frame where it is still gathering more dust.
