I always leave my camera behind!  Why do I do that?

Last Saturday was the busiest day of the month.  To begin with, I was suppose to have a morning class at the local quilt shop, but it didn't make (not enough students).  But I was prepared for it anyway.  The same day I had a "show & tell" (trunk show) luncheon at noon in Mazie, along with my best Amish friend, Martha Gingerich.  The same day was the Eden Mennonite "Day in the Country" annual affair.  The same day was the local bank's customer appreciation day with lots of entertainment and food.  The same day was when the circus was in town!  And would you believe all of this, and I forgot my camera!

Yes, I know, you are saying, then how did you get the picture above?  Well, between the luncheon and going to the Mennonite Festival, Martha & I stopped in at my house and grabbed it.  HOWEVER, by the time we got there, everyone was leaving and they were bringing down the tent!

We happened to notice a commotion over in an adjacent field.  A lot of the Amish were conducting "games" involving their horses and other activities.  What fun that was!  The game shown above went a little like this:  (A timed event).  Race the horse about 500 feet to where the horse trailer is located.  Open the trailer gate and lead the horse in.  Close the trailer gate behind the horse.  Run a circle around the trailer.  Open the trailer gate and get the horse out.  Jump on the horse and race back to the starting line.  Best time wins.  (What the prize was, I have no idea.)  It was great.  Some of the little guys were on big horses, and some of the big guys were on little horses.  Some fell off.  Some had obstacles like being ambushed by someone when you are running around the trailer.  Some horses didn't want to go in.  Some horses didn't want to go out.  Some young boys were endeavoring to showoff their prowess in front of the eligible young girls too.  :-)

There were other games, quite a few.  One where a boy was to place his forehead on a baseball bat that was anchored in a bucket of sand.  He was then to run around the bucket (keeping his forehead on the bat) until he was dizzy.  Then he was to get on his horse and ride to a certain destination line.  Hilarious to say the least.  They also had "bloomer" races, and other games.  Here's a picture of some of the kids and their horses:

It was a beautiful day.

A couple of weeks before, I attended the quilt show in Claremore, Oklahoma, at the Bluegrass & Chili Festival there.  The Claremore guild puts on a wonderful quilt show each year at that time.  But I forgot my camera then too.  However, I did have one picture sent to me from Uncle Sam that was there at the quilt show that day.  My friend, Regina Mann, got acquainted with him in a discussion on patriotism and it went from there.  They sent us the picture.

Claudia, Uncle Sam, & Regina

Sorry that I have no pictures of quilts in this edition of the newsletter.  No quilt pictures of the wonderful luncheon with the Broken Arrow quilters' groups.  No quilt pictures of all the quilts that were auctioned off that day at Eden.  No quilt pictures from the Claremore quilt show.  Well, the Tulsa State Fair is starting this weekend, we'll see if I remember it this time.  :-)
